Cheat codes

Debris won`t boot on my laptop; it drops back into x after bootup shows no errors.  When I go to use a boot cheat I am unable to  `Highlight the corresponding entry; Press e for edit`  No matter what key I press I can`t highlight any selection. Is there a secret to all this?   Not sure what to do next.


Changing the boot cheats with the Grub interface:

1. Highlight the corresponding entry; Press e for edit
2. Highlight the line starting with "kernel" (should be by default); Press e for edit
3. Add/remove/edit the cheat codes and press ENTER
4. Press b for boot.

"Highlighting" means using the up/down arrow keys. If they don't react, then your keyboard isn't recognized at this stage. Never encountered this one before, though.
