DL 3 will be based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

There are no major changes to DL 2 in plan - except perhaps a switch of the web browser. Basically it's an "update" of DL 2, because of developing two versions 32/64bit at the same time. It doesn't leave much room for experiments.

So far, there is a semi working 64bit version - well, it boots... However, development is stalled ATM. It's summertime, it's holiday-time. Quite frankly, I have better things to do!

ext4 install option would be nice.

2GB RAM support option at install

a media player with basic video functionality would be nice.

a simple paint/picture edit function? Pinta, Shotwell, Solang?

Why would you want to do basic office work, but don't want to have some basic photo editing functionality and some basic video playback? Or am I missing something?

By the way, the target size is less than 200mb, right? What is exactly the motivation behind this, since all up to 700mb will fit on a cd (sorry if this is old cake).

All of your suggestions are already in consideration.

As for the size, if we have all 700MB, then whats the use of DL? Just use Ubuntu, or any of the other Ubuntu-based distros. The original idea of "less-then-200MB" goes back to BeatrIX. Not all have high speed internet connection and thus size matters! DL's purpose is to run on old(er) hardware. I understand that even people with brand-new hardware crave for a slim OS (so do I), but that's not the purpose of DL. Which doesn't mean it can't run on new(er) hardware.

However, the 200MB limit will not be possible sooner or later, since software gets bigger. It seems it will already be the case for the 64bit version.

Nice!

About the size. I think having the right amount of programs in the distribution is of higher priority than the size. Still the size is important, but it shouldn't be a dealbreaker (in the case that you don't use a video player becouse the size is getting to big).

Those netbooks with single core aren't very fast and thus Debris works very nice with them. I use the msi wind u100.
