gnome-appearance uses over 90% CPU resources, and does not shut-down.

I have noticed this in just about every version of Debris I've used, but shamefully never got around to reporting it...
 Embarrassed

The Appearance dialog/gnome-appearance application uses over 90% of CPU resources. Also, when you close the dialog, the actual application does not shut off. It is still shown in as running, and using over 90% CPU resources.

Well, Top shows over 90%, though the System Monitor applet shows over 50%. It can be shut down through the System Monitor, releasing the resources.

This could be caused by faulty themes. I encountered this behavior too, but not lately.

The problem still persists with 2.0 RC1. I tried it after a fresh install, with no additional themes added. The gnome-appearance max's out, and also does not shut down. I need to kill it through the system monitor.

Also, I downloaded a theme from Gnome art, and tried to install it with gnome-appearance. The theme only partially installed, with system lettering, such as the clock the original colour, mouse-over effects not working and so on.

Whilst browsing Synaptic for anything interesting to install, I came across Gtk-ChTheme. I installed it. I then, again, tried to install the BlueSpace_II theme. This time, it installed OK, and the CPU resourced used was quite low.
