Website improvements

wouldn't it be nice to have a screenshots section on the website? Normaly when I check out a distro, I only download the ones who have screenshots of it on their website. I think you're missing at least 60% of potential users if there are no screenshots avaliable.

Screenshots are only useful if they show something that cannot said in words well.  Debris uses the Gnome desktop, so looks virtually the same as any other Gnome desktop.  What would you expect to see from the screenshots?

you are right off course, but I think that Debris and Gnome are not only for the people who know a lot about linux and Gnome, but also for newbie's. People new to linux aren't going to test it to see how it looks or aren't going to the gnome-website to see how gnome looks. Personly I wouldn't go for Beatrix linux and maybe even Beafanatix if there weren't screenshots on the website. BFXscreens

I also think that Debris does have a personal look. Different than Knoppix or Ubuntu. For example the menu's are less cluttered with tools. You also must see that Debris is a live-cd so the presentation is the way you will allways see it. If you install Debris you can change that.
I do see that there isn't need for a lot of screenshots, 5 would be anough.

Honestly, I see no harm in a few screens, and the server has plenty of space for them. I'll put some up in the next few days/weeks (the original desktop and features, no modifications) in a separate thread and link them from some thumbnails in the About section. I wouldn't put too much emphasise on it, but there's been a considerable amount of work done to make Debris look good, and I see no real reason why we shouldn't show that.

OK; I guess I was in Tech Writer mode...  On one of my (hopeless out of date) websites, I have screenshots of the initial desktops BeatrIX, Beafantix and BFX2.

As soon as I am able to install Debris 1.0, I will update the site and add the new desktop.

Ahh the screenshots...

I was also searching for sreenshots on distrowatch, but it points to this website:

http://www.thecodingstudio.com/opensource/linux/screenshots/index.php

... but there are no screenshots (yet) on that website.

By the way, wouldn't it be good to put this link:

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=debris

to the main debris page.

datiswous,

I know I'm obliged here... We want to do an overhaul of the site and its features for the 2.0 release, and it's a natural to integrate screenshots. However, the layout stuff needs to come first.

Thanks for the reminder and the good advice.

Ok nice.

It would be nice to see the actual teammembers from Debris linux (I thought I heard somewhere there are more than 2). It would also be nice on what Ubuntu version the Debris versions are based on (I mean in the "about" article).

Is the logo in the login menu of the beta version the new logo?

Yes, that's the new logo. I wanted to wait until the site is ready ("just" a new theme), but it'll still tke a while, until Moonmind has the time do work on it. But I had it all done already (even the kernel has the new logo) and thought what the hell...

We actually had some short descriptions on the BFX page... At the moment, the team consists of three regular members (apart from R3 and me, Jeff (maconulaff)'s in); some very active members of the board (like Rob (alloydog) and, of course, you) have been very helpful, too.

The point that's behind our reluctance to expose ourselves more personally is that we decided to do our best for the project and the product - not for the fame or anything, just for the purpose of providing something useful. Simply put: It's not about us, period.

In fact, maybe this highlights our defensive stance when it comes to achieving "a lot more" or "something else": We're quite contented with what's going on, and we're in no position to change a lot in terms of proceedings.
